Pelvic Inflammatory Disease

It is infection of the upper genital organs that includes fallopian tube, endometrium(inner wall of the uterus), ovaries, surrounding peritoneum.

CAUSATIVE FACTOR:
Bacterial infection by one of the following factors
-poor hygeine
-sexual act
-during menses
-abortion
-child birth
-through instrument during d & c etc procedure

Manifestation can occur in 2 ways
1. Acute pelvic inflammatory disease
2. Chronic inflammatory disease

MAIN CLINICAL FEATURES:
ACUTE PID:
• Sudden onset of high fever with chills
• Severe lower abdominal pain
• White discharge
• Burning micturation

CHRONIC PID
• Chronic lower abdominal pain
• White discharge
• Repeated urinary tract infection
• Infertility

Is Ayurveda choice of treatment for this condition?
In acute case, better option is taking Antibiotics as advised by physicians of modern system, and once the infections is controlled then following Ayurveda treatment is ideal for complete recovery.
In chronic cases Ayurveda is the ideal treatment to follow.
The main treatments followed are sits bath using specific herbal decoctions, Yoni Varthi (insertion of medicated wick), Yoni shoucha, Dhoopa etc along with specific Ayurvedic herbal formulations.

COURSE OF THE TREATMENT
14-21 days’of Panchakarma treatment is better to start with, those who can not follow the Panchakarma treatment can use the herbal formulations as outpatients. Herbal formulations should be used for 3-6 months or till complete recovery.

PROGNOSIS:
In acute cases, a short course of antibiotic as per the advise of modern physicians followed by our treatment is found to be helpful. In chronic cases success rate is very high with Ayurveda treatment alone.
